Costs and services

This page provides information about the costs of antenatal check-ups and giving birth at the birthing centre and our other services.

Costs

As a general rule, the costs of all antenatal care and natural birth services are covered.

Geburtshaus Zürcher Oberland has held an official service mandate from the Department of Health and has been on the hospital list of the canton of Zurich since 1 January 2012. If you give birth and spend the postnatal period at the birthing centre, your health insurance will cover the costs along with your canton of residence. These are standard benefits under your basic health insurance, and we obtain the cost guarantee for you. If you come to us for the postnatal period after giving birth at home or in hospital, these costs are also covered by your basic health insurance.

Please bear the following distinction in mind:

  • Women who live in the canton of Zurich: all costs are paid by the basic health insurance and the canton of residence.
  • Women who live in a neighbouring canton: many women from other cantons come to the birthing centre, and the invoicing process functions seamlessly. As a rule, the costs are also covered. In individual cases, your canton of residence may not bear all the costs due to something known as the “reference tariff”. We will advise you on whether this affects you and whether supplementary “whole-of-Switzerland” insurance is required.

Alternative treatments may give rise to additional costs. We will be happy to advise you on this, too.
